Basic Steps to Jump Start Another Car

When a car battery dies, your engine will not turn over, which means your car needs a quick jump start from a running car. With just a working set of jumper cables, these easy steps for jump starting a car can be completed on your own.

Match up the fronts of the two cars so that you can easily reach between their hoods. Find the batteries under each hood. Connect the red positive clamps of the jumper cables with the positive battery terminals on both cars. Attach the black negative clamps to the negative battery terminals in each car. Turn on the working car so that the dead battery can receive an instant surge of power. This could take up to two minutes. You can then try starting the other car with the jumper cables still connected.

Replace your car battery before your next road trip at Beyer Volvo Cars of Winchester.
